• Clarkson University Senior Jared Smith Receives Levinus Clarkson Award

  

  Graduating senior Jared D. Smith received the Levinus Clarkson Award during Clarkson University's 120th commencement ceremony.

• More Than 350 Clarkson University Students & Alumni Volunteer for Day of Service

  

  The first "Clarkson Serves" event attracted 357 participants nationwide, including 227 students who volunteered on campus and in the Village of Potsdam and 91 alumni from 16 chapters, including Washington, D.C., Santa Monica, Calif., Boston, Mass., Burlington, Vt., and several in upstate New York.

• Sarkisian to Speak at Clarkson University on Engineering for the Future of the Environment

  

  Mark P. Sarkisian will speak on "Engineering for the Future of Our Environment" on Friday, May 10, at 2 p.m. in Bertrand H. Snell Hall Room 213. Sarkisian is the director of seismic and structural engineering in the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. He will receive an honorary degree at Commencement on May 11.

• Environmental Engineering Honor Society Established at Clarkson University

  

  A Tau Chi Alpha Environmental Engineering Honor Society has been established at Clarkson University, creating the third active chapter in the United States.

• Clarkson University Senior Earns National Tau Beta Pi Fellowship

  

  A Clarkson University student is one of only about 40 nationwide who has been awarded a fellowship from Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society in the United States. Jared Smith will receive the $10,000 fellowship for the 2013-2014 academic year.

  Clarkson University Assistant Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering Sulapha Peethamparan has received a $30,000 grant from the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) for her research on cement-free "green" concrete.

  Clarkson University is one of the most environmentally responsible colleges in the United States and Canada, according to The Princeton Review.

• Vermont Local Food Pioneer to Speak at Clarkson University on Building a Socially Responsible Business

  

  "Being sustainable means being socially responsible and making a profit," says a Vermont businessman who over the past three decades helped pioneer local sustainable agriculture in Vermont. Mark Curran, co-owner of Black River Produce in North Springfield, Vt., will speak about "Building an Environmentally Responsible Business" on April 12.

• Alcoa Foundation Partners with Clarkson University for Campus Recycling Initiatives

  

  Alcoa Foundation is partnering with national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful and the College & University Recycling Coalition to provide 40 recycling bins to Clarkson University as part of the Alcoa Foundation Recycling Bin Grant Program.
